Choosing what clothes to wear for that big interview or special occasion is hard enough. But what about the jewelry? The good news is that pearls are the best “go-to” option for impressing without overwhelming.
Pearls give women lots of choice, because they come in lots of colors! But which color is best for the occasion? That depends not only on the event, but also on your skin tone and the color of your outfit.
In general, pearl color represents a personal preference, where no one color is inherently superior. However, what you see in the glass showcase may not be what looks best on you!
Consider how the pearls look against your skin tone. Do you have darker skin tone, maybe a tad exotic? If so, then pearls with golden, cream, or dark tones tend to look best.
If your skin more fair, pearls that are white, silver, or rose are most striking. Black pearls (including shades like dark grey) are perhaps the best choice of all, because they go well with all skin types!
Remember that nice pearls are highly reflective, which means they will tend to reflect the color of your clothing (see my earlier post about pearl luster). This means for example, that a peacock green pearl will look more engaging when you wear greens and blues.
Most interviewees, however, tend to wear neutral to dark shades of clothing, so your safest bet is to go with pearls that are white or dark, and avoid golden and pink – these shades tend to draw too much attention for the occasion. Save the brighter hues for “brighter occasions”, like weddings, daytime or office wear, or evening events which feature lots of light.
I’ll cover more about how to choose pearl color for each of the different pearl types in future posts.
